Last week, the Blackhawks defeated Monroe Central in an extremely close game, 27-22, earning them their second consecutive sectional championship!! The Hawks started very slowly, allowing the Bears to score their first touchdown at the beginning of the 1st Quarter. By the half, the score was 14-0, and the Hawks were down. In the second half, the Blackhawks brought the intensity. With 6:19 left in the 3rd Quarter, Eli Kolb scored on a 9-yard run. The energy from this further motivated the Hawks and 5 minutes later, Kolb scored again, tying the score at 14 to end the quarter. The successful 3rd Quarter led to a strong 4th Quarter start for the Blackhawks! To start the quarter, the Hawks fumble the ball, and the Bears recover it on the 1-yard line. The next play, 27 seconds into the 4th, the Bears fumble in the end zone, and Trent DeCraene recovers it, adding 6 points to the score!! With 3:26 left of the game, the Hawks trailing by 1, Zach Bales ran it in 1 yard to take the lead!! This brought the final score to 27-22!! Congratulations to Eli Kolb for receiving the Legacy Images Player of the Game!
The Chargers' lead receiver, Kaden Muckerheide, averages 25 yards per game, compared to the Blackhawks' lead receiver Trent DeCraene averaging 37. The Chargers rely heavily on their run game, similar to the Blackhawks. The Chargers average 216 yards per game, and the Blackhawks average 202. When asked what needs to be done to succeed in this game, senior Trent DeCraene said, “We need to go out from the start and jump on them and then we also need to play as a team and get the crowd involved early!!! The defense will also have to get some turnovers to win this game.”
This Regional matchup looks to be a close game! Show out to Bud Wright Stadium; kickoff is at 7 pm!! Go Blackhawks!!!
